“ Sandboxes ”

              – and rainbows –

                              revisited –

Time played us so

Carefree of puerile,

As though forever

We’d live the while,

In wishful rainbows

That so beguiled,

Till hint of shadow

When of a sudden,

We’re cast adrift

Of childhood days,

Denied of sandboxes

Thus to find our way…

Now adult vision

Edges to fashion,

Of chance choices

In unlike passions,

Be soon worn thin

Held best assume,

Find remote whim

Of wearisome spins…

Yet period plagues

With insipid wishes,

And easy daydreams

Of undying rainbows,

In sandbox dwellings!

“ Reasons ” ~ but to justify ~

Reasons,

Simple to find

Easy to give,

Reasons of why

So few live,

For be but excuses

Not worth their uses,

As most rate less

Than gossamer ruses,

And far too many

Neath tenable any,

Be worthy of reason

Save want vindicate

Timorous misoneism,

Held beyond reason!

“ The Gift ” ~ of you ~

I want not forget

Fail having tried,

Or simply accept

I chose regret,

Mindful that I could

Rather than affect,

Without need to try

As tho I could deny,

You be easy on the eye…

I need recall

The times you tried

Offering your all,

I too blind to see

You needed me,

As I you even more

I might’ve realized

The gift you offered,

I hadn’t known before…

Doesn’t tax a memory,

To recall the many

And none as worth if any,

Yet didn’t know enough

I had this gift to hold,

But only now can tell

When I am wiser old,

And you’re now gone,

A gift for someone else to hold!
