The Look
– of a forlorn smile –
I picture the look Of a beguiled face, That wants to brook Find an affable place, For the very long while Hence want not lose pace, Nor to misplace found smile Tho all gods shan’t pay grace, When irrelevant be man’s guile Who wouldst try calm sadly face, With the tacit mind, of a forlorn smile!

A perfect match up of words and imagery. Well done.
I agree Paulette!
Writing is like that, when once in a while the right words fall into place to tell a story, As the old saying goes a picture is worth a thousand words, ergo a possible overlong tale becomes ashort poem. Et voilà !
My dear friend, I enjoyed listening to your recitation. When a voice says the words out loud, there is a marvelous resonance as well as an emotional nuance. Many thanks for beginning my day. PS The music and all the paintings by Amedeo Modigliani were the icing on the cake!
Two of my most favourite artists, since I first looked at a painting of Modigliani, and first heard Chet Baker’s jazz. Mind you the artist Sargent is not to be ignored either. That you also enjoyed my audio recital of it, is but another plus that assures me its producing of it all was worth the pleasure it gave me, thus so in leaving a durable trace with which to be associated!
