“ The Hat ”

– tit for tat –

He wore the hat

To dress his head,

Tho tit for tat

And so with dread,

He wares it now

Hides pilus dead,

Or gone so thin,

It fails be coaxed

To grow back in,

Thus pate regrets

That bushy hair,

Of peacock fame

Beyond repair,

Held chose delimit

Its germinal game,

Evokes sad memory

Of his lamented mane!

    • Thanks Paulette, and you’re right, about memory lane. But for we who must ware hats, more than ever now, with the damaging sun and thinning ozone, hair or no hair, hats are for more than the pleasantry I’d made out a most useful and now most needed article of of clothing year-round…with preferably a good looking head cover!

    • The Irony you say, and maybe so, depending on one’s position of observation. Mind you this was written in 2002, when men were less inclined to sport the now popular style of a shaven head. Personally I still prefer a head of hair with hats against the sun shining thru an ever thinning ozone layer. In as much as we who have light skin easily skin suffer the consequences, even thru a head of hair. To use Paulette’s word, great prompt Liz, and thank you for it…

  1. I have several hats in my closet, some for winter, some for summer. They provide stories and emotions depending on the positioning on my head. We wear many hats, even when they are imaginary. And in so doing, we live many lives and generate many memories.

    • Ah, Rebecca… leave it to you my alert friend, “We wear many hats, even when imaginary, and thus so live many lives ” etc. I was wondering and waiting to see if someone would take the hat out of the conventional box of head covering. And you dear lady have done so, and thus so for the more interesting wearing of different symbolic hats. As in business, acting, theater, music, literature, officialdom, management in and at all different walks of life, from the actual general side, to the more serious side of a clown’s hat for all its meaningful statements abstract and conventional…! Well done, Rebecca and thank you kindly!

      • I LOVE our conversations. By the way, all is progressing with great enthusiasm and excellence with our techie – he is having so much fun with the crows and ravens.
