“ A Road ” ~ that has a home ~

I’ve roamed

Far beyond Rome,

And in between

Sites that did mean

Recall one day,

What must be seen

To find their way

In minds held keen,

That musings stay

To hold the memory

Of insistent places,

Where one still hears

Echoes of the faceless,

In a world of tears

Where life soon passes,

With utter indifference

To their relentless fears…

The while I roam

Roads I have known,

Yet find them looking

For a road that has a home!

  1. Such a powerful point about home. Seems that “they” who constantly travel looking for home miss that they’ve been living in it all along, but then that’s metaphorically speaking. This one from you makes me feel happy and satisfied that I’m comfortable where I am. That’s a good feeling to take away from your lovely poem.

  2. Ah, to be “home.” Therein lies the hope of all humanity. And yet, for most of our lives we do roam, in one form or another. There is always a pathway that leads us to that point where we feel we belong. Even so, the pathway, when shared, becomes ever more affirming. We may live on opposites sides of our great nation, but I know that we are walking the same pathway…

    • Yes of course… home in the uncommon sense of this loosely used all important word. The one that goes beyond bricks and mortar. Thank you Rebecca, and the feeling is mutual as to walking the same path. Jean-Jacques Fournier
